Implants to Control
the Bladder and Bowel

It is essential that people with spinal cord injury can manage their bladders despite the paralysis. One very successful method is the Sacral Anterior Root Stimulator (SARS), otherwise known as the Finetech-Brindley implant. Following the operation in which the device is implanted, incontinence is prevented, and the bladder can be emptied when it is convenient. The device also often helps with bowel evacuation. It is suitable for people with complete spinal cord lesions (complete loss of sensation or movement in the lower body).

Enquiries can be made to the manufacturers

or to clinicians at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Dr Sarah Knight)

or at other Spinal Injuries Units in Britain.
