Supervisor: Professor David T. Delpy, FRS

Mark Cope Dr. Mark Cope left the Department of Medical Physics in August 1999 to join Wireless Systems International. Mark was a leading member of the Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory at UCL, with research interests which focussed on clinical applications of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). His Ph.D. thesis, completed in 1991, describes the design and construction of a CW spectrophotometer, the methods employed to analyse the data, and some preliminary results. The thesis also provides an extensive background to the field of NIRS, and includes experimental spectra of haemoglobin and cytochrome.
